Project Introduction:
This constant current design features a straightforward circuit layout divided into two primary sections. The main circuit operates without the need for secondary current feedback, simplifying its structure significantly. The ICL5101, housed in a compact 16-pin package, integrates both PFC (Power Factor Correction) and half-bridge resonant controllers. By utilizing an LCC (Ladder Capacitor Compensation) topology, it ensures consistent current output at a fixed frequency. The PFC component demonstrates exceptional performance with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and high Power Factor (PF). At full load (100%), the THD remains below 5%. Even under 50% load at 277Vac, the THD stays under 10%. The output voltage range of the LCC portion can maintain constant current across a span of 25% to 100%, achieving up to 93% overall machine efficiency.
The dimming functionality is achieved through a compact SOT23 6-pin CDM10V controller paired with an optocoupler, offering a dimming range from 1% to 100%. It supports three different types of dimming signals: PWM, 0-10V, and resistance settings, effectively replacing the need for an MCU with a simpler circuit design. Compared to traditional architectures like PFC + Flyback + MCU, this solution boasts simplicity and high efficiency, making it more cost-effective for lower-power applications, such as 30W designs.
