Project Introduction:
This constant current design features a straightforward architecture divided into two primary sections. The main circuit operates without requiring secondary current feedback. The ICL5101, housed in a compact 16-pin package, integrates both PFC and half-bridge resonant controllers. Utilizing an LCC topology, it ensures constant current operation at a fixed frequency. The PFC segment delivers impressive low THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) and high PF (Power Factor) performance. At full load, the THD remains below 5%. When operating under 50% load and 277Vac, the THD stays below 10%. The output voltage range of the LCC portion can maintain constant current across a span of 25% to 100%, achieving up to 93% full-load efficiency for the entire system.
The dimming function is achieved through the use of a compact SOT23 6-pin package CDM10V controller paired with an optocoupler, offering a dimming range from 1% to 100%. It supports three types of dimming signals—PWM, 0-10V, and resistance setting—replacing the need for a complex MCU with a simplified circuit design.
Compared to traditional architectures such as PFC+Flyback+MCU, this solution offers both simplicity and high efficiency, making it a cost-effective choice for smaller power applications like 30W designs.
