Millions of dollars to listen to the sound of the potential of 99

Looking at various headphone reviews is a bit metaphysical. You can't really know what's going on just by reading about it—only listening with your own ears will tell the story.

For example, someone might say: "I listened to SSD files stored on a hard drive, and the sound quality was smooth and clean, but I still prefer the physical texture and grain of files from a mechanical hard drive." Another person might say: "i3, i5, and i7 are all too fast. I only use them for listening to music. Only Tuladin’s 'Celebrate' gives me that feeling of a gentle spring breeze."

I didn’t really want to write this, but I also don’t post too many photos (it’s kind of a bad habit). In 2004, I started using ER4P. Last year, I heard some crackling in the cavity, so I went to TB to find someone to repair and test it. However, ER4P is like a long-time thief—it doesn’t usually break down, so I never had to replace it. But then I decided to look for a smaller earphone (don’t ask why I didn’t buy one earlier). There were several options under the Hidden series, which aren’t generally well-known (I’m not sure if they're navy or not, but I definitely am not navy). The most expensive one was only 99 yuan, so I bought it. I got four filters, and 40 seemed okay. So I just tried it out.

As a 99-yuan product, getting a tin box was also a surprise (I haven’t bought headphones in over ten years, so forgive me for not knowing what other packaging looks like).

The headphones come with everything covered by the sponge pad. I started with the low-impedance version, and used it on my phone. Usually, I plug it into an amp and switch from 4P to 4S.

It came with two pairs of silicone sleeves and one pair of sponge sleeves with clips.

The craftsmanship is good, and the default settings on the earphones feel just right.

Also included a pair of silicone ear hooks.

My first impression was that the craftsmanship is solid, better than some small 4s. The metal cavity feels no cheap at all.

The wire uses 24-core OFC wire, with an added 400D bulletproof layer. The main line can withstand up to 40kg of weight. They use large and hard line files (big and hard… strange way to put it) to increase durability.

This is the official description of the cable. Let me say it’s not as stiff as described. Anyway, when lying in bed, there's no real audibility effect.

3.5mm L plug.

The LR logo is on one side, and the “Hidden” logo on the other. Don’t ask me anything—I haven’t seen any fading after a month of use.

The back of the housing, maybe the outlet?

Removing the silicone sleeve, or the sentence... Craftsmanship is flawless without any glitches.

Putting on the silicone ear tips, they should fit well—but I haven’t used them yet.

A photo of the MDR-EX15LP for $29.

It really looks like it.

Small 4 reveals a face.

Listening to the main song while lying in bed...

Don’t ask me what song I was listening to (in fact, I listen to it often). Dozens of gigabytes of APE and FLAC have been untouched for a long time. I used to mix ImageGarden before, but now it's all old. If you've heard ImageGarden, leave a comment.

Almost forgot to mention my evaluation—still not unboxed.

Huang Yiyun's music is beautiful, and I love listening to it. Default setting is 320kbps.

Es rappelt im Karton – female voice + Dong Dong Dong – dive in place. The quality and quantity are slightly loose (ER4P is famous for its quality and quantity).

This song has repeated several times in one track.

The melody is sad, and the lyrics are sad, but I didn’t hear any negative emotions. Instead, I felt a quiet strength spreading through the music.

The male voice performance on the 99 model is well balanced. Although the official description says it's not full-bodied, what counts as "fullness" varies depending on the singing style.

Liszt's version of Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 in B Minor. Can you hear the pine scent? Of course not. What we hear is the rhythm and expression of the piece. At what level does the 99 perform? With a small 4P plugged into a phone, there's still a slight gap. The resolution is actually good, but it lacks delicacy and permeability.

From shallow to deep drums, with a dynamic range and the thickness of the female voice, the performance of the 99 made me want to download it after just one ear.

What? Symphony? Oh, I never listen to that.

In summary, you won’t know the true sound quality just by looking at these pictures. It’s too good to be true, and it's not like the images are taken to exaggerate noise or highlight edges. Now, with so many Bluetooth devices on the market, and even the new iPhone 7 removing the headphone jack, like my new Mix 2, you need a converter. It hurts a bit. But if you want something cheap, I think the 99 won’t disappoint you at this price. Oh, actually, I still want to try Dafa’s drop. Noise beans.

On the sauce. Rushing to write the Mix 2 review.
