The world's first 360° commercial solid-state LiDAR system

AEye has made a significant breakthrough by detecting a high-density point cloud image in a single frame from its 150-channel intelligent LiDAR, which can capture objects up to 300 meters away and offers a full 360° field of view. According to Memes Consulting, AEye, a pioneer in machine vision, recently unveiled its first commercial solid-state LiDAR system with a 360° detection range. The system successfully demonstrated real-time performance during a live test in an urban environment. The company’s advanced LiDAR technology features a densely packed 150 vertical channel scanner that allows for customizable point-of-interest scanning and an extended detection range of up to 300 meters. As the world's first commercial solid-state LiDAR to support 360° coverage and real-time software configuration, AEye is setting a new standard for autonomous vehicles. Its compact, high-performance, and cost-effective solution brings a major milestone in the development of safe and reliable self-driving systems. Luis Dussan, founder and CEO of AEye, stated, “This is a major step forward in the evolution of vision systems. Our solid-state LiDAR combines cutting-edge technology to achieve detection distances, frame rates, and resolutions that were previously unattainable.” He added, “This is just the beginning. Our smart sensing and software-defined LiDAR (SDL) technology enables autonomous vehicles to gain superior environmental awareness, accelerate innovation in self-driving tech, and help OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and transportation service providers tackle their most challenging perception tasks.” AEye’s system architecture and algorithms are designed to mimic the human visual cortex, processing and transmitting information efficiently to the brain. It integrates computer vision with a 1550nm LiDAR system for intelligent data detection, fast sensing, and action planning. The software-defined hardware allows real-time data selection and optimized pre-processing, reducing control loop latency and improving system performance and safety. With its unique “visual cortex” design, the system processes LiDAR data more quickly and efficiently, enhancing reliability while lowering power consumption and bandwidth usage. This makes it a key enabler of high-resolution, low-latency sensing solutions. Additionally, AEye’s MEMS-based design supports rapid development and customization, helping to reduce costs through mass production. Currently, AEye is collaborating with major transportation and heavy industry OEMs for system testing, as well as working with shipping service providers and supply chain partners. The company plans to launch phased commercial deployments between 2017 and 2018. AEye is dedicated to developing advanced vision systems, providing both the "eye" and "visual cortex" for autonomous vehicles. Since launching its first solid-state LiDAR in 2013, the company has consistently pushed the boundaries of smart sensing and perception technologies. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, AEye raised $16 million in Series A funding in June 2017, with investments from top-tier firms such as Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Intel Capital, and Airbus Ventures.
