Yunqi 2050 launches to challenge young people closer

Global Network Technology Debate On December 8, during the ArchSummit Global Architect Summit, Dr. Huo Taiwen, founder and CEO of GK Technology, joined forces with Dr. Wang Jian, Chairman of Alibaba's Technical Committee, to announce a special event scheduled for May 2018 in Hangzhou. The event, titled "Yunqi 2050: Freshman Science and Technology Conference," will bring together young minds to explore the future of technology and innovation.

The Yunqi 2050: Freshman Science and Technology Conference was jointly initiated by Dr. Wang Jian and over ten tech companies, including Geekbang, with the goal of helping young people recognize global challenges and inspiring their creativity and imagination. It’s not just about sharing knowledge—it’s about sparking curiosity and encouraging the next generation to think beyond boundaries.

Young people are often overlooked, even though they hold the key to solving many of the world’s most pressing issues. Despite the widespread recognition of youth potential, real efforts to engage them remain limited. “The Nobel Prize receives more attention than young people,” Wang Jian noted. He emphasized that there is a lack of awareness about the opportunities provided to youth and the impact their ideas can have on society. Yunqi 2050 aims to change that by giving young voices a platform to influence the world.

In addition to inviting international young talents, Huo Taiwen shared that the conference also strives to include young teachers from underdeveloped regions, enabling them to gain insights and then share them with more students back home. This approach ensures that the knowledge gained isn’t confined to one group but spreads widely.

When challenges are brought closer to young people, the future becomes more tangible. Young people are often described as the "sun at eight or nine o'clock"—full of energy and potential. The theme of this year’s conference reflects that idea: it’s about bringing challenges directly to the youth, not keeping them distant. According to Wang Jian, the true opportunity for young people lies in being challenged, not just repeating what has already been done. Hosting such a conference gives them a chance to speak up, access new resources, and grow.

"We do all these things for humanity. By changing the world, we’re actually making it better for ourselves. Creating the future means creating our own future," Wang Jian said passionately.

Yunqi 2050 is not just an event—it’s a public welfare initiative. "This will be a non-profit meeting, funded by Dr. Wang Jian’s Science and Technology Charity Fund," Huo Taiwen explained. He added that while Alibaba Cloud and Geekbang are involved, the main driving force behind the event is Dr. Wang himself. The co-organizers are acting as volunteers. "We have a potential agreement: if the conference generates profit, it won’t stay within the geek community or Alibaba. Instead, it will return to the charity fund to continue supporting tech-related public welfare initiatives."

Wang Jian further emphasized that open-source contributions have significantly advanced technology. This conference is a way to give back to the tech community, using technology for the greater good and helping young people reach their full potential.
