According to FreightWaves, as part of its efforts to join BiTA, FedEx is actively working on developing industry-wide standards. Alongside this, the company is also testing various blockchain platforms to understand their practical applications in logistics.
Dale Chrystie, Vice President of Strategic Planning and Analysis at FedEx, stated that the company is part of the BiTA Standards Committee and has initiated the "Storage Data Dispute Resolution" pilot program. The initiative uses blockchain to create a permanent, distributed ledger that can help resolve customer disputes related to goods being sent or received.
In addition, FedEx is using blockchain to store logistics records. Chrystie explained:
"The FedEx system generates millions of records every day. We believe that blockchain can provide a secure chain of custody, which will ultimately improve the entire logistics industry. We see great potential for blockchain in this sector and believe it can simplify all data interactions in a highly secure manner."
Kevin Humphries, Senior Vice President at FedEx, added that blockchain technology can also help customers track their packages more efficiently. Although FedEx currently highlights only a few possible use cases, Humphries hopes that more and more blockchain-based solutions will emerge in the logistics industry in the future.
