The LG OLED desk lamp is finally in mass production! Illumination life exceeds 30,000 hours

The OLED panels developed by LG Display are renowned for their exceptional quality, as seen in LG's OLED TVs and the recently launched V30 smartphone. However, LG’s use of OLED technology extends beyond traditional electronics. Recently, the company has showcased the potential of OLED panels as light sources, marking a new phase in the application of this advanced display technology.

This isn’t the first time LG has explored OLED-based lighting solutions. In 2014, LG Electronics introduced similar concepts at various tech exhibitions. Now, with advancements in manufacturing, LG Display has transformed these ideas into real products that are both functional and visually appealing. Over the past few years, the technology behind the OLED table lamp has evolved significantly. Initially based on a second-generation production line, LG Display now utilizes a more advanced fifth-generation process, resulting in improved efficiency and performance. The latest OLED table lamp features an ultra-thin, flexible light-emitting panel covered with a durable plastic layer. This design allows for greater adaptability in form and function. LG Display has created three different panel shapes—two oval designs and one square—offering diverse options for users. Compared to the 2014 version, the current model boasts higher brightness and a longer lifespan. At the recent DesignJunction exhibition in London, LG Display showcased three prototypes. The elliptical model, for example, can last between 30,000 to 70,000 hours, which translates to about 13 years of daily use if left on for 10 hours each day. Like other LED lighting systems, these OLED desk lamps support adjustable color temperature, allowing users to customize the lighting environment based on time of day or personal preference. Their flexibility also opens up new possibilities for product design. Beyond home use, LG Display is currently collaborating with car manufacturers to integrate their OLED lighting panels into automotive interiors. It’s important to note that LG Display doesn’t sell these lamps directly. While a commercial version is already available, the latest fifth-generation OLED table lamp will only be fully operational by early next year.
