Two products for 100G 40km optical interconnect application scenarios

With the accelerated development of the Internet and cloud computing industries, the demand for long-distance applications for 100G products in data center DCI networks and metropolitan area networks has also increased. According to third-party forecasts, the number of 100G 40-kilometer optical modules in the next five years will increase. It will grow at a rate of 30% per year.

For 100G 40km optical interconnection application scenarios, Yifei Yang offers two products to meet different application scenarios.

Product 1: 100G CFP2ER4 optical module applied to OTN equipment, which supports OTU4 rate and can transmit 40km without turning forward error correction function, which can simplify the transmission network of metropolitan area network, reduce relay equipment and reduce system delay. And operational maintenance costs.

Product 2: The 100G QSFP28 ER4 lite optical module used in the data center DCI network provides a convenient choice for long-distance interconnection applications of 100G ports between data center rooms.

Two products for 100G 40km optical interconnect application scenarios

Next, let's introduce the features of these two products:

Compared with the first-generation CFP optical modules, the CFP2 optical module has a 50% reduction in volume and a 40% reduction in power consumption, which increases the number of ports and improved data exchange capabilities of core devices. The optical module's technical solution uses EML laser (TOSA), PIN photodetector (ROSA) and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Through the optimal control of these three core components, the advantages of low power consumption are realized. The typical power consumption is only 8W, and the ASIC hardware solution is used to implement the MDIO communication interface, which has the characteristics of strong compatibility.

Yifeiyang 100G CFP2 ER4 optical module adopts two advanced and efficient algorithms independently developed by Yifeiyang:

First, the SOA gain control algorithm: In the case of receiving optical power changes, the advanced and efficient closed-loop adaptive algorithm can quickly lock the SOA operating current and quickly adjust the amplification performance of the SOA to ensure that the receiver link works normally, even if the system is not turned on. The Forward Error Correction Function (FEC) also satisfies the 40 km transmission distance, making it fully compliant with the IEEE802.3ba 100G BASE-ER4 standard and the rigorous ITU-TG.959.1 OTU4 (4L1-9C1F) standard.

Second, the high-precision RX DDM monitoring algorithm: the working current value of SOA and the voltage value detected by the receiving end (ROSA) jointly construct the RX DDM monitoring calculation model, realize high-precision monitoring of received optical power, and RX DDM monitoring precision control. Within plus or minus 1dB, the monitoring accuracy of the product is higher than the protocol requirements.

Easy to fly 100G QSFP28 ER4 Lite is packaged in QSFP28, which has the advantages of smaller size and lower power consumption. It meets the MSA specification of 100GE 4WDM-40. The transmitter uses a dual-rate DML laser and the same EML laser. Compared with the version of the 100GQSFP28 ER lite optical module, it has the advantage of ultra-low power consumption, and the power consumption is less than 3.8W under the full temperature condition of 0~70 degrees, which meets the requirements of green energy saving in the data center. The receiving end of the optical module adopts a high-sensitivity APD photodetector, and the sensitivity satisfies <-16.5dBm. Under the condition that the system side forward error correction function is turned on, the 40KM transmission requirement can be met, and the system side turns off the forward error correction function. It can also meet the requirements of 30KM zero error transmission. The optical module provides a cost-effective solution for DCI optical interconnects between distributed data centers.
