40% of LCD TVs in the fourth quarter will use LED backlights

In order to meet the market demand for continuous conversion of LCD TVs to LED backlight modules, stimulating panel manufacturers are actively developing their own supply chains to reduce the price of LED backlight modules. According to the latest Quarterly LED Backlight Panel Shipment and Forecast Report, in the second quarter of 2010, 9.5 million LCD TV panels were LED backlight modules with a penetration rate of 18.5%, a 110% increase from the previous quarter. LCD TV panel manufacturers have high expectations for LED panel shipment growth. Currently, the market penetration of LED panels in the fourth quarter of 2010 is expected to reach 40%, and in the second quarter of 2011, more than 50%. Leading panel makers are mainly Samsung, LG Display, AUO, Sharp and Chimei Innolux. It is worth noting that Samsung and Sharp expect shipments of LED LCD TV panels in the fourth quarter of 2010 to exceed CCFL panel shipments (Table 1). Among these vendors, Sharp is the only vendor focused on direct-type LED backlights compared to the side-by-side design used by most people.

"The price of LCD TV panels will drop sharply in the third quarter of 2010 due to oversupply and downstream inventory adjustments. However, the price reduction of LED panel prices will be faster than CCFL." DisplaySearch Greater China Marketing Deputy General Manager and Large Size LCD Mr. Xie Qinyi, head of the research team, pointed out. He stressed that "through the price of LED panels and the continued decline in retail prices of LED LCD TVs in the end market, panel makers hope to continue to grow their shipments by the end of this year."

After the tight supply in the second quarter of 2010, the supply chain of LED backlight modules has increased production capacity to meet the production needs of panel manufacturers. In addition, panel makers have invested in many resources to develop better-cost, low-cost backlight modules. These technological development efforts include "single-sided two light bars" edge-it LED backlight modules, through the use of alternative optical films for higher brightness and lower cost, and LED chip package area Expanded to achieve better luminous efficiency. These technologies have laid the foundation for an increase in the penetration rate of the new wave of LED market.

In the second quarter of 2010, the main shipment size of LED-backlit TV panels was 40 inches, accounting for 23% of all LED-backlit LCD TV panel shipments. This is followed by a 32-inch panel with a 21% market share, a 46-inch shipment with 15%, and a 42-inch shipment with 11%. Between the first quarter of 2010 and the second quarter, shipments of 37-inch LED panels grew by 642%, the most growth of all sizes. From the perspective of LED panel manufacturers, Samsung and Sharp shipped 2.8 million LED-backlit LCD TV panels in the second quarter of 2010, both with a market share of 29%. LG Display is closely following, with shipments reaching 2.4 million units, with a 25% market share, and AUO shipments of 1.2 million units with a market share of 13%. This result shows that the top four industry players account for 96% of global LED-backlit LCD TV panel shipments.

DisplaySerach also found that many system integrators or brand manufacturers have their own LCD module production line, obtained LCD panels from panel manufacturers such as Chimei Innolux and AUO, and then assembled LED backlight modules with their own designs. These backlight modules and the system-integrated business model adopted by leading manufacturers will help increase the LED market penetration.

The Quarterly LED Backlight Panel Shipment and Forecast Report also examined the market penetration of LED panels in desktop and notebook panels. In the second quarter of 2010, LED market penetration rate of desktop display panels reached 13.1%, and it is expected to reach market penetration of more than 30% by the end of this year. LG Display, AUO and Chimei Innolux took the lead in LED display panel shipments. On laptops, LED penetration reached 92% in the second quarter of 2010.

Fused Biconic Taper (FBT) splitter, also be called fiber coupler, based on the traditional technology, it is to bundle together two or more optical fibers, and then pull the cone machine melt stretching, and real-time monitoring the change of the ratio, spectral ratio requirements after melt stretching, one side retain a single fiber (the rest of the cut) as input, the other end is a multi-channel output.

As one of the key components for GPON FTTx networks, optical splitters can be placed in the Central Office or in one of the distribution points (outdoor or indoor) because the FBT splitters are highly stable for multiport optical signal splitting with low insertion loss. FBT couplers are designed for power splitting and tapping in telecommunication equipment, CATV network, and test equipment

XRX FBT splitters are available with 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 1x5, 1x6, 1x8, 1x12, 1x16, 1x18, 1x20 and 1x24 configurations with single mode or multimode fiber and we offer all type connectors of pre-connectorized like SC, FC, ST, LC and E2000 etc.
