Due to geographical and historical ties, certain regions are frequently affected by two major natural disasters: typhoons and earthquakes. While these events cannot be entirely avoided, effective disaster prevention and resilience strategies can significantly reduce their impact. However, the challenge lies in making complex disaster-related information accessible and understandable to the general public. To enhance public preparedness and response capabilities, the National Disaster Prevention and Rescue Science and Technology Center (Civil Defense Technology Center) has developed an intelligent response robot that delivers real-time disaster information through simple, conversational interactions.

According to Li Weisen, the center’s secretary, the organization plays a vital role in supporting government efforts in both disaster prevention and emergency response. Over the past few years, they have integrated data from 39 different units, over 270 domestic maps, and real-time monitoring systems to create a comprehensive decision-support platform called "Disaster Emotional Network." Alongside this, they launched the disaster response robot known as "Disaster Prevention Gold Steel." "Disaster Prevention Gold Steel" is the first disaster response robot developed in Taiwan using advanced disaster analysis and semantic processing technology. It enables users to access real-time and accurate disaster information through a simple question-and-answer interface or active alert mode. The robot also provides visual data such as maps, charts, and images, allowing users to quickly understand the situation and respond accordingly. Looking ahead, the technology could be further integrated with TV screens for real-time video transmission, enabling people not only to ask questions but also to view live footage of disaster-affected areas. This would help the public stay informed and better prepare for potential threats. Additionally, the robot could be linked to car navigation systems, providing drivers with real-time updates on road conditions during disasters, thereby increasing awareness and safety on the roads. By making disaster information more accessible and interactive, this innovation marks a significant step forward in improving public disaster preparedness and response.
