iWatt launches the Flickerless SSL LED driver iW3630

IWatt, a leading supplier of power management integrated circuits (ICs), has introduced an innovative digital AC / DC LED driver platform designed to address issues such as cost, performance, and operating life in commercial and wireless solid-state lighting (SSL) systems. The first device of the new platform, iW3630, is a two-level Flickerless LED driver that supports up to 45W output power. It is the first SSL LED driver with a built-in 0V-10V dimming interface in commercial lighting. The device also has a PWM digital dimming interface for wireless solid-state lighting applications.

The iW3630 device adopts a highly integrated design, which can save 30% -40% (1) bill of materials (BOM) cost compared with the peer solution of 0V-10V application, and is different from other solutions, even when the load is reduced to full load At 20%, an extremely high power factor (PF) can also be maintained. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of this solution is below 15%, which complies with strict global energy efficiency standards. At the same time, overtemperature protection (OTP) with derating function is built in to improve the predictability and reliability of the system's working life.

iW3630's built-in isolation transformer driver can directly coordinate with 0V-10V dimming system

The iW3630 device reduces the BOM cost by 30% -40% by integrating multiple design functions. The built-in isolation transformer driver can be directly coordinated with the 0V-10V dimming system, without the need to add additional driver circuits and expensive microcontrollers, and the PWM digital interface is easy to integrate into wireless lighting systems.

For commercial and wireless lighting applications, the built-in derating overtemperature protection means that no additional components are required to control the temperature. In addition, iWatt's patented PrimAccurate primary-side control technology eliminates the need for secondary regulators and optical feedback isolation devices, while EZ-EMI technology can simplify EMI filter design to further minimize the number of external components. Combining various built-in functions, the iW3630 LED driver only requires less than 70 components, compared with more than 100 components for traditional SSL LED drivers. In addition, the device can reduce the size of the overall solution and improve reliability.

Mr. Hubie Notohamiprodjo, Director of SSL Product Marketing at iWatt, said: "We have already provided a variety of SSL LED drivers for the market. The iW3630 further expands our product range and is our first and the industry's first professional driver for commercial dimming applications. . "

The iW3630's digital control architecture supports a wide range of input and output conditions, simplifying driver design. This allows one configuration to support LED strings of various lengths to cover the entire output power range. iWatt conducted a case study on the lighting driver using iW3630. The results show that only 3 ballasts can replace the existing 9 ballasts, thereby reducing the number of mass-produced models.

The iW3630 uses iWatt's Flickerless technology, which makes the entire 1% -100% dimming range without flicker, while also providing a very stable ± 5% LED current adjustment rate. This technology combines a power factor correction (PFC) circuit composed of a chopper circuit. This circuit achieves a high power factor and requires almost no input high-voltage components.

The iW3630 chip has a built-in derating over-temperature protection function, which can monitor the internal temperature of the driver. When the temperature reaches the set point, the iW3630 LED driver will automatically reduce the LED current, reducing power consumption, and at the same time reducing the entire operating temperature. This avoids the risk of thermal runaway, ensures that the temperature of the electrolytic capacitor in the lighting system does not exceed the rated value, and can also predict the working life. In addition, the built-in protection functions include LED open and short circuit, input overvoltage, overcurrent, and current sampling resistor short circuit protection.
